The starting architecture offered panoramic water views but little hierarchy. White perimeter walls, broad glazing and an open plan risked making the residence feel like an anonymous gallery rather than a home.

The brief imagines a Miami residence for an established art collector who wants color, cultural energy and comfortable entertaining without allowing the collection to overwhelm daily life.

What the design needed to resolve.
The spatial challenge
The central problem was balancing three focal points—art, Biscayne Bay and conversation. Furniture needed to protect sightlines while creating intimate zones inside one expansive room.
What changed
BN2 established a warm ivory and walnut architectural framework, then positioned saturated color as a controlled counterpoint. The rooms now move from quiet thresholds to expressive gathering spaces without visual competition.
Custom decisions
A fluted-walnut media wall, integrated art lighting, a tailored bar and display millwork were developed to conceal technology and give differently scaled works a deliberate setting.
Material logic
Selected for character, light and use.
Honed limestone grounds the strong Florida light; walnut adds depth; brushed bronze introduces warmth without shine. Cobalt, coral, saffron and aubergine appear in movable layers so the collection can continue to evolve.

The experiential result is a residence that can hold expressive art and generous entertaining while remaining calm enough for everyday life. From the entry, water and selected artwork are revealed in sequence rather than all at once.
